A metronome is a tool that maintains a steady number of beats (or clicks) per minute, depending on the speed set by the user. Useful for working on even counting and playing music evenly at faster tempos. Recommended for most students by the time they are in their second or third year of piano study. Avoid purchase of old-fashioned pendulum metronomes, which need to be wound up frequently and often become unbalanced, affecting their ability to keep good time.
